Except when our more delicate designs specify otherwise, Hickory Chair uses custom-engineered eight-way hand tied coil springs. Coils in Hickory Chair's upholstered furniture seats are hand tied eight times to provide secure stability for decades. Springs in the backs of wing chairs and sofas feature four-way hand tying to allow for dynamic lumbar support not possible when constructing with coil springs. Also note Hickory Chair constructs the back coil rows of their seats with a heavier gauge coil than the front and middle rows since a person's weight is concentrated primarily on these two back rows of coils. Attention to normal weight distribution has led to a stronger, more comfortable sitting platform that, with the help of more durable coil springs, will not sag with use.
